Hamsters are a type of rodent that are popular as pets. There are many different types of hamsters, and only two that are typically considered appropriate for pets. The first is the Syrian or Golden Hamster. Despite the name “golden” Hamster, they come in many different colors, which pet store owners differentiate with the names “Dalmatian,” “panda bear,” “polar bears,” “black bears,” “teddy bears,” and “honey bears.” The other type of hamster commonly used is the dwarf hamster, which includes Campbell’s dwarf hamster, the Russian dwarf hamster, the Roborovski dwarf hamster, and the Chinese dwarf hamster. Clearly, there is a wide variety of the adorable little animals, and so they have a wide appeal across generations.

Hamsters are good for children who are learning how to take care of their first pets. That makes them suitable for classrooms as well as homes. Hamsters do have a certain smell associated with them, but that smell can be kept under control easily by regularly cleaning the cage and changing the newspaper shreds or the sawdust. Hamsters are also easy to feed because they eat fresh fruit, vegetable, and seeds. That means you don’t have to go out of your way to buy some sort of expensive food—just give them apple or lettuce pieces. So there are several reasons why you might want to consider adopting a hamster into your home. And there are different places to acquire one. There are hamster breeders, so you don’t necessarily have to buy one from a pet store. Do a bit of research to find out the best hamster breed for your family.
